Re: HyperServer (and RE:CME Bursting Data)

Bing, comparing our CPU data might be comparing apples and oranges as I'm only downloading Russ2K emini from IB's feed and eSig ... nothing else streaming.

Looking at your mention below of thousands of cars/min suggests your data is S&P or perhaps something equally high frequency.

I have long ago seen S&P data run the CPU up high, but with different charting software. The developer and I worked on the issue and he came out with a mod that reduced the number of calculations per sec such that fast market conditions no longer pushed the CPU much beyond 50% worst case.

Hi Liam

I put a similar post here last week called "CME
Bursting Data" - an issue that esignal highligted.
eSignal stated that CME made some improvements at
the CME which is now causing the data to burst
following a 1-2 second period of inactivity.
Running TS2K during this time caused the cpu to
spike and stay at 100% for much longer than usual
periods even during a low volume turnover rate (ie
<3000 contracts/min). Looking at the running
process, i see ts32.exe taking up 100% of cpu time
to handle the data. esignal says that the issue
at their end has been resolved but i continue to
experience cpu spiking.

At this point whether this bursting occured from
CME to esignal, or esignal to me is irrelevant.
I just find it strange that i have not heard any
mention by any other users that they are
experiencing this cpu spiking issue from other
data providers during this CME "improvement" (if
there has been, my apologies and pls. forward
info). On the flip side, i also find it equally
strange that ONLY YOU AND I seem to be the only
ones that appear to be experiencing this issue
running TSk w/ esignal since I have not read any
more posts on this issue on the esignal forum nor
on this list since i originally made that post
after esignal said they resolved their issue.

So, basically I don't know where the problem is..
whether it's still with esignal, or maybe just our
PC's need a clean install to get rid of any
garbage..... well, not a lot garbage on my PC.. on
a 37GB drive, it's half empty. But maybe i will
just have to go thru the headache of reformatting,
reinstalling, reconfiguring everything over just
to make sure that the problem IS or IS NOT with my
PC. Hmm, i thought i was a trader now, guess i'm
still an IT guy!

However, i do know that using Hypserserver w/ IB
to feed TS2Ki you will NOT experience this CPU
spiking issue - but keep in mind i'm using a
broadband connection. I've tried it - installed
Hyperserver on my laptop - a P3 550MHz. feeding
data from IB to TS2k with identical workspaces,
and symbols copied over from my P4, 2.4GHz
workstation which experiences the CPU spiking
issue. CPU on this P3, 550Mhz laptop did spike to
100% BUT NEVER more than a brief second and all
charts ALWAYS stayed up to date even during fast
markets when using Hyperserver with IB and TSKi;
compare this to my TS2k running on my P4, 2.4Ghz
where the cpu would spike and stay spiked for 5-10
seconds resulting in charts falling behind when
running esignal to feed TS2k. Strange depending
on how the data is sent to you (in msec. snapshots
from IB), vs. whatever method esignal employs
makes a big difference in CPU usage. Looking on
the 1min charts, i cannot see any diffences that
would affect MY trading style - ALL technical
pivot levels occur at same prices/time on the 1min
charts, acccounting for differences in timestamps.
(TICK Charts of course may be an entirely
different matter if u trade off of them)

Since IB does not provide key market statistics,
i'm looking for a product that can connect to IB
for emini quotes, and can also simultaneously
connect to any other data provider so that i can
get these key market statistcs realtime as well.

If anyone using TS2ki with esignal IS, or IS NOT
experiencing CPU issues i would greatly appreciate
their feedback just to give me better indication
whether this problem has more to do with me than
w/ esignal.

Thanks,
Bing

Hi, friends.

Without timely broadband net access available at
this
location, maybe the IB datafeed is a useable
option for TS2Ki.
eSignal's feed is increasingly getting here in
spurts and is
obviously running behind the IB data for much of
the first
hour even for ER2 from eSignal and IB's
ER2 data as the only two data items incoming.

I'm limited here to a pair of phone lines bonded
with MS
Multi-link at 57K.

I see MetaServer is marketed by TradeStation now.
The
original URL has been taken by another org.

So, I'm looking to try out HyperServer Lite.

Thoughts from any of you users?
