One thing that helps enormously is to turn off "Update every tick" in TradeStation 2000i ("Update value intra-bar" in TradeStation 8) on all indicators unless you really need it.
The default is "on" so most of the indicators supplied with the system have it on. This eats up gobs of computer time with no benefit.
Also set the default to off so that all future indicators you make will have it off.
