GF> Is that still the case? Or do current-generation P4's throw off

HEAT:
I have a 2yo AMD +1800 fitted with a Zalman 'flower' cooler and 2x
90mm 40cfm fans, one on the cooler, one as a case fan. Both fans can
be varied from 1500rpm to 2200rpm depending on my cooling
requirements.
Under light use (Internet, e-mail) with the ambient at 23C and fans on
idle it runs at 54C. Under extreme use (100% cpu, heavy
number-crunching for extended periods of more than 30 minutes) with an
ambient of 35C and the fans wound right up (summer in the tropics) it
can go to around 65C.
(The code on the chip indicates a maximum cpu case temp of 90C, but I
have never got it anywhere near that no matter how hard I push it.)
PERFORMANCE
I have no direct comparison between Intel and AMD, however my ISP is
involved in the SETI program, where he does calculation runs and sends
the results back to SETI. He does these runs on either an AMD +1800 or
a dual P4 (2.0Gig I think) and he is of the opinion that the AMD is
noticeably faster. FWIW.
