That's because they indeed don't exist yet. You were right in
your conclusion, they do not have the high resolutions (yet).
Highest you will find is (in consumer products, other see below
the e-mail) something like 1024 width so that's
by far not close to the high end large tft monitors (good once
go up to 1600 and probably higher)

Philips seems to be doing a good job on it at the moment. They are
trying to higher resolution by adding some extra lines wich seem to
make vga pictures better (normal tv) Their consumer products
have 30% more horizontal lines wich seems to help. Don't know if
you can also use those 30% more lines when using it for computer
purposes. You will need extra vertical lines also....

They also have a high-end 30 inch LCD. Resolution, 1280 * 768
a 37 inch with a resolution of only 852 * 480 (normal for the cheaper
consumer lcd tv's and apperantly also for the more expensive stuf)
a 50 inch with again a resolution of 1280 * 768 (if higher resolutions
would be possible you would imagine that it would be implemented
on a 50 inch)

Probably there will come high resolution "tv's" in the near future. But
don't
expect that to be called tv's i would say.... a televion has more than
enough
with the above resolutions. If a large screen comes out with higher than
the above resolutions it will most likely be for the computer, not for tv
since normal television does work on much lover resolutions than the
specified 852 * 480 so resolutions like that are more than enough allready
for television.

If higher resolutions monitors will come out, it will be for computers and
it
will be tft.

Actualy, they allready exist. Iiyama allready has a 22.2 inch tft with a
resolution
of 3840 * 2400 ...... wow :-) Looked for a price, did not look hard but
could
find one for 9400 euro. (no idea if that is excluding or including vat)
Curious
if standard videocards can control that :-)

greetings
