Potential Fix re Symbol causing 100% CPU Usage

Just saw your thread. I have had similar problems in the past with US T bond
futures symbols in TS2000i using eSignal. TS2000i has problems with the
volume data that accompanies some of these select futures symbols (Edit
Symbol/ Edit data/ Volume column)- especially any continous or 24 hour
symbol.
Here is a possible fix: delete the existing futures symbol (save what you
need first) and reinstall that symbol back into Global Server as an "Index"
(category) instead of as a "Future". You will need to create it as a
"Custom" symbol and be sure to replicate the session breaks carefully for
any continous or 24 hour sessions etc. - so make a note of these first in
your existing symbol under Edit symbol/ Sessions.
You will probably not be able to import saved tick data from your previous
Futures category symbol into your new Index category symbol even so the
symbol name can be the same ex. "YM M3" Index.
Good news: if you use Dynaloader for eSignal ( highly recommended) - it will
pick up and feed to your new custom Index symbol. Ask it to refresh Global
server symbol portfolio. You can then download up to 60 days of 1 tick trade
record data in minutes. Create (from your old symbol) and then use Ascii
files to download historical daily data ( dynaloader does daily too) back
into your new custom Index Symbol.

Re the 100% CPU usuage: I find a single processor Dell 600 Server works
really really well with TS2i and multiple workspaces open with long long
Intra-day data sets and super heavy analysis techniques. You need the SCSI
Controller and Harddrive / P IV Intel 2.0 CPU or above and loads of ECC RAM
(512 min.). These mostly come with the standard box. No problems using
Windows 2000 K Pro or Server - ask others re XP. Stable Stable Stable.

Subject: RE: 100% CPU Usage

Hi Michael,
Are you using electronic symbols in TS? There is a problem with cpu usage
spiking to 100% when using some electronic symbols My problem is with the
electronic symbol YM. I am using e-signal with TSki and when I attempt to
run a YM chart in real time the cpu spikes to 100% every 5-10 seconds and
sometimes freezes the computer. The data into GS slows dramatically. I
have had extensive discussions with tech support without finding a solution.
I was told that Omega has no interest in fixing the problem when I suggested
the problem be escalated, as they "frankly don't care". The only other
electronic symbol I use is the ES and there's no problem with that symbol.
But consider this. I have been using the ES for several years without
charting or cpu problems. Signal's data feed has been modified or upgraded
several times over the past couple years. But TS2ki has not been upgraded
since Service Pack 5. It may very well be that the two are incompatible
with the latest electronic symbols. I wish I could offer more but please
let me know if you find a solution.

Robert

Subject: 100% CPU Usage

Hi,
I am using eSignal with TS2000i. But whenever there is
a quick price move, the TS2000i charts updates will be
delayed while the CPU usage is at 100%.

I tried to defrag the harddisk. But it doesn't help.
It is a 1.7GHz CPU with 785M memory.

Not sure if anyone else experienced this problem? Or
know how to solve the problem?

Thanks.

Michael
