This is a heads-up for those who subscribe to TS6 / 7 and saw the notice of
a new $1/month charge for "real-time data services" from each of "AMEX,
NASDAQ Level 1, NYSE, and OPRA". The question is: What is meant by
"real-time data services"? The answer (which I had a hell of a time
learning - 1st-tier support techs don't know) is INDEXES!
Look at the info in the "exchange" column of a quotes page for each index
which you follow. My understanding is if the exchange is shown as "NA",
that's a freebie. Anything else probably entails a charge for the
corresponding "exchange". (The reason for the quotes is that one of the
chargeable categories is "OPRA" - I don't know what that stands for, but the
CBOE and probably other exchanges as well fall under this heading.)
Incidentally, this charge is not a new one from the exchanges - again, my
understanding is that the exchanges have always charged it but that this
small charge was simply a part of the cost of doing business which was
defrayed by the basic subscription fee. TradeStation has simply decided to
"pass" this charge on to subscribers. Hmmmm - what business expenses do you
think they'll "pass on" to us next?
