>Hello Alex,
Hello Mark.
>AM> The owner of a server can choose to block anybody for any reason,

>NO NOT! If that owner is holding himself out as a ISP provider, they

>for you what will be delivered and what will not!
Let me try again, and to quote you, "this time retain! if possible."
------> Their server, their rules. <------
If an ISP believes that it is commercially beneficial to them to
block certain traffic, it is their right to do so. If you as a
customer do not like it, you are always free to find another ISP.
>That is CRIMINAL!
The free market is criminal?
Well retain this: email doesn't enjoy the same legal protections as
postal mail. Perhaps it should, but it doesn't, not anywhere in the
world.
And also this: It is NOT criminal to protect ones own property. As
a customer of an ISP, you are using their property. Their servers,
their rules. You have no legal "right" to email transmitted through
the private property of others.
>In today's computerized world it is everyone's responsibility to
>maintain a secure system.
Agreed.
>"But, if I can draw the analogy that just because everyone should wear
>a computerized bulletproof vest doesn't mean that shooting people to
>find out who isn't wearing one is the best answer. If administrators
>choose to do this, then perhaps they shouldn't be surprised that they
>will occasionally be confused with the type of individual they are
>fighting against.
Here's a far better analogy:
If you live in a neighborhood infested by crack-dealing street
gangs, don't be disappointed when the pizza delveryman refuses to
deliver to your area. Likewise, if you choose bed down with an ISP
who makes a business of supporting spammers, don't be disappointed
when another ISP refuses to accept your traffic.
In any case, I think this is the wrong forum for this debate. Try
posting your views to news.admin.net-abuse.email. You'll get an
earful (screenful?), consisting of both angry crap and well-reasoned
arguments far better than I could do here.
