Re: TS4 I/O buffer buildup

Quote windows with mini symbols...believe it or not! They slow down fast
and slow systems alike. I've observed it first hand with my BMI dedicated
box, but NOT with my Qcom/DS5/TS4 combo.

To test, switch to a workspace with an open quote window (with minis
displayed), and adjust the TS window such that you can see the I/O meter at
the bottom of TS4 server. The I/O will vary upon how fast the quotes are
being received and processed by the server. Then switch to a non-quote
workspace and watch the I/O will fall to zero.

Immediate solution...eliminate the minis in the quote window or switch to a
non-quote workspace...permanent solution, get a serial card with a larger
buffer.

Just remember that when the I/O exceeds 40-50%, you WILL lose ticks, lot's
of em!

Also, you posted on the DS list 8 months ago that everything was well with
your rig then; ie, your I/O fell when you got the faster CPU. If that's the
case, you just have to figure out what's changed since then.
