Re: Switching from Metastock

Hi Philip,

I made the switch from MSK to TS a while back. Although I still follow both groups actively, I've
practically abandoned any further work in MSK. For my systems and trading approach, it was well
worth the switch.

I started with TS4 and eventually expanded to include TS2K. Each has its merits. I have found
TS2K to be as stable to more stable than my MSK Pro 7.03. (667MHz PIII, 512Meg RAM, Win2K).

Those that have TS6 (aka, TS Pro) seem to have success with it, although you will find that the
lack of very much historical data and it's inability to read data from other sources, like ASCII
files, will be very limiting for any real backtesting of intraday systems.

Because Tradestation Technologies will no longer sell TS2000i in the US, you would need to watch
eBay or some of the maillists for used copies of TS4 or TS2000i for sale. (You need to realize
that this practice is forbidden by Tradestation Technologies/Omega as well as specifically
prohibited by the licensing agreement, although it appears to occur with regularity.) Another
option may be to purchase TS2000 through an international reseller; however, I don't know if you
can take delivery in the US.

The best book for learning EasyLanguage is a free one, and makes a great reference. Check out

Other texts may be helpful depending on your learning style, but this one contains all of the
information you'll need to start programming in EL. Of course, this list has many experienced,
knowledgeable, and helpful members as well.
