RE: Off Topic Compaq question

My understanding is that Compaq uses a special reserve sector on the hard
drive for their own custom diagnostic routines. Doing a low level format
may wipe it out. A regular format should not. How integrated these routines
are with the BIOS is a good question that you should answer before you
attempt a reformat.

Subject: Off Topic Compaq question

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to simply reformat the HD on a
Compaq Pavilion computer and then install a new OS (W2k)? I see the
Compaq logo at boot up so I didn't know if any special
consideration has to be given to the Compaq BIOS.
