Due to some confusion my recent posts have caused, let me attempt a better
summary:
PowerST is not a TradeStation clone. Rather, it is a more specialized
software program, which specializes in historical testing and generating
trade signals from data files. It is not a real time program. For an EOD
trader, it could be a complete replacement the EOD functionality of
TradeStation. For an intraday trader the issues are more complex, but then
since PowerST currently does not support intraday data there isn't much point
in going into detail at this time.
As a more specialized program, PowerST has more depth in it's specialty of
historical testing. In particular, it is very strong in portfolio level
testing and portfolio money management. There are other historical testing
strengths which will become more apparent to the general readership as the
release of the product progresses.
For an EOD trader, PowerST is a viable platform now. However, there are still
tradeoffs at this time. There is the strength in portfolio level testing, but
there is are weaknesses in other areas. In particular, I warned that there is
currently no charting. I expect charting, as well as other missing features,
to start getting filled in within the next several months.
The only reason an EOD trader would consider purchasing PowerST at this time
is if they have a strong enough need for the portfolio level testing that
they are willing to forgo some missing features, plus are willing to work
with a package that is generally not as polished as a release commercial
product. Inquiries are being given access to a detailed list which discusses
exact status in depth. The list is too much to reproduce here, and besides
there is no point since there is only a very specialized segment of readers
who might be interested at this time.
PowerST is expected to support intraday data in the future, but no time frame
is being quoted. Anyone purchasing PowerST at this point needs to be content
with EOD data for an unspecified time frame.
I could handle one or two additional customers at this point if they started
with full understanding of the current feature set and current status.
Yes, this is an advertisement, which was acknowledged in the first line of
the first post on the subject a couple days ago.
This will be my last post about PowerST for now, unless someone responds to
the list with a question, in which case I will answer the question to the
list.
