I received a similar message with attached virus in a .com,
and fellow member Gary Fritz, responded to me with:

For amusement I've been opening up some of the files in
these things.
 SirCam grabs a file from the infected computer and wraps it
in the
virus.  Then when you open the attachment it displays the
file in the
appropriate viewer (MS Word in this case) to keep you
occupied while
it's busy mucking with your system.  I didn't open the
virus, but
just looked at the file contents in binary, and it was a
cold-call
script for CommodityShop prospects.  :-)
