Re: Startup programs (was Regedit problem)

Another option in w98 is to run MSINFO32. Go to the Tools menu, select
System Configuration Utility, and then select the Startup tab. From here you
will find all (well at least what appears to be all) items loading at
startup. Some I leave checked eg; ScanRegistry, System Tray,
LoadPowerProfile, whatever antivirus stuff you want, and then the particular
program stuff. UNchecking others releases alot of resources. If, say, your
scanner doesn't work then go back and recheck what you figure should be
checked. One real bug bear I've found is Microsoft Office's Fastfind.
Seemingly very unnecessary in w98. Could never preclude it from running,
though. Even by uninstalling! Best was to makesure of a custom install of
Office, with Fastfind unchecked. The w98 runs very well!

Can anyone help with this one, please:
My new w2000 machine runs with a live feed here in Aus and since I've had
it, often there is hestitation after clicking something before it loads,
activates or whatever. And at the worst; when I select a folder from Excel
to open a file from, it may take over 40 secs to load all the files in that
folder (say up to about 150 files). Weird. Maybe w2000 needs Fastfind? But
they are not Office files in that folder so, to my understanding, Fastfind
is of no consequence there?
