Hi, Dave,

A couple of years ago I was spending too many hours each day developing and
testing systems, indicators, etc., and ignored a wrist problem.  It then
moved up to the elbow, and finally, the shoulder.  I had a passion for my
work, but each day became more painful.

After reading up on the then-current thoughts on ergonomics, I took a couple
of steps.  It took a number of months to get my shoulder back to a "normal"
state.

I'm afraid it's not the mega-buck-ultra-latest-design solution, but here's
what I've used with great success:

1.)  My office/computer chair is a "Swiss Ball".  For those not familiar
with such a beast, it is a large, inflatable, burst-resistant ball, used for
everything from physical therapy to weight training to... office chairs.
Besides helping develop your body's stabilizing musculature, it's kind of
fun.

2.)  To echo Jan Philipp's reply, the Logitech Trackman Marble FX is a great
boon.  Since you move a ball set into a stationary device, you have minimal
hand/arm movement.

3.)  I learned the Dvorak method of touch typing.  Yes, you spend ~3-4 hours
re-training those neuro-pathways, but it's easier, faster, and much nicer to
your body than the QUERTY method, originally designed to slow down your
typing, so that you couldn't jam the keys on a typewriter.  We now live in a
different world.  I'd never go back.

Your expenses are your time and ~US$125.

In the meantime, if the injury has reached your elbow, you might think about
a neoprene wrap for the upper forearm, to help distribute the stress more
evenly.
