It looks to me like it is simply the difference between the LAST "high" in 
the equity plot minus the current value of equity.  The "initial starting 
balance" is just a constant to which "closed" and "open" equity gets "added" 
and thus has no effect on this "difference plot'.  Basically the "red" shows 
the "drawdown" from the last PEAK in the equity.
