Take a look at RCG PSD. Their software is not web-based; it runs as a
windows application. Once you log on, they ping you every 5 seconds and you
know, with that resolution, if there's a connection problem.
They have 2 separate, independently routable IP addresses, so if there's
any problem on the route, you can switch to their other ISP. I had a
connection problem on Thursday that was immediately patched around by
switching to their other ISP (a key click). I later diagnosed it as a
latency problem on MY ISP's backbone for that particular address that was
avoided with the secondary ISP. My ISP found and corrected the defective
routing. It was nice that the trading opportunities were unaffected by this
sort of <common> Internet glitch.
Orders (even those going to the pit) get instantaneous order numbers. Fills
are reported back in a timely way and they're reported automatically; you
don't need to poll the status repeatedly. Their connection to Globex2
avoids TOPS.
