OM:

There are things other than money for which some gifted and generous traders
bestow information to selected individuals. I am fortunate to have
experienced this from a generous mentor over the past 2 years. So you are
mistaken, OM: dollars are not the only incentive for some. Phantom of the
Pits is another good example. He continually stated in his online book and
the futuresforum chat area that he was trying to help out others as a way of
"giving back". Both of my examples are expert traders and still actively
engaged in their chosen work. Those that "mentor" traders for 350$ per
month, or whatever, may be more interested in trolling for new students than
teaching those they have, since the attrition rate must be high. The fact
that one gets nothing of value from teaching students unless you are paid is
absurd. Any good teacher will freely admit that by teaching and writing
down one's thoughts, one is helping oneself in the area discussed. It can
be similar to the benefits of journaling, recommended by many including Mark
Douglas in "The Disciplined Trader".

Just a few thoughts to consider.
