Re: BMI satellite tick comparison

Just would like to throw this in here as I have been fooling with this tick
count for some time. On one machine, an Acer clone(1996 vintage) formerly a
133mhz now AMD300 upgrade, Win95, using a Cyber Serial PCI card fed with BMI
consistantly gets approximately equal ticks than a friend dos with
Win98,Ensign,DTN,TurboExpress920. The trick may have been to drop the
receiver FIFO buffer a notch on the Acer. More buffer may not be better as
is commonly thought. Some traders are not experiencing any improvement in
tick loss by switching to the TurboExpress card. Unless I am mistaken the
mother board comports use the ISA bus and so does the TurboExpress card,
i.e. 12mhz, whereas the PCI is 33mhz. In that regards, the DIGI PCI board
looks to be superior. Now I am wondering what the consequences would be of
using a PCI graphics card and a PCI serial port card. I guess ideally, you
would want a mother board with an AGP slot for the dual Matrox card and then
a DIGI serial port card.

On the second machine, W98,ProSuiteGS,TurboExpress, the tick loss is
consistantly 20 to 25% less than the ancient Acer and TS4. More hardware
compute power may not be the answer unless the operating system and or the
program is deficient. Now the next test will be with PS under W2000 when
the new PS version arrives. If that doesn't help PS, then another upgrade
might be necessary.
