http://grc.com/. Steve Gibson is the writer of the Zone Labs software.
The grc site ("ShieldsUp") will test your computer security shields and port
access at https://grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2.
This free software may be better than Black Ice. He talks about other
shields (not Blace Ice) that are "Evil Port Monitors". That is, they may
*attract* those hackers you wish to avoid. I've used the Zone Labs software
on W98se without any problems and it is easy to set up.
