I do not think ribau's comments are fair to say the least. Why would the
inability of omega to write 10-20 lines of code to be prepared for the
possible floating point dates which TC2000 might be using, be TC2000's
fault. In fact, TC2000 has used exactly the same format for their post
y2k V3 data as for their pre Y2k data, so why would you not guess this
was the date format which might occur post y2k. We have a tiny little
software company here (Tarn Software) who was able to adequately prepare
for TC2000's actions, but omega (a goliath with 100s of times the
monetary and manpower resources) was not. Hmmmm. Could the answer
instead be that omega plans to sell you data and require or place
barriers in the way in order that you be coerced to buy their data?
Moreover, you have ignored the fact that TC2000 provides an interface
for retreival of their V4 data which is free to use. Now our company has
elected not to invest the time to implement v4 direct reading (for the
time being), but with omega's vast resources, what possible reason can
they come up with for not implementing reading of V4 TC2000 data?
Simple, they do not actualy want you to continue using TC2000 data.
Period.
I will agree with you on Quotes-Plus. This is an excellent alternative.
It is cheaper and incredibly simple to use. Our Byte Into The Market
software supports direct reading of Quotes-Plus data because like TC2000
they have chosen to make an interface to the database freely available
to all third party developers. They have even done a better job of this
than TC2000, because their interface is easier to implement. Contrast
this with equis-metastock who charges for their interface utilities and
requires permisson for third party use of the utilities.
what camp will omega fall into....what is your guess......open formats
and interfaces or closed proprietary data formats and systems? If they
are going to sell data, it will be the latter. Yes, Quotes-Plus and
TC2000 both provide software with their service, but it is the data they
are selling you. Conversely, equis-metastock is in the dual role of data
vendor and software vendor. omega has shareholders to satisfy and they
will look for all the revenue they can find.
