TS 3.5 --> 4.nn path

I'm waiting for Omega to send me the CD with TS 4 build 21 on it,
and thought I'd ask the collected wisdom here what's the preferred
path from that build to a working Y2K setup.  Of course, the end
build number may change over the next few days, but by then that
last patch process should be straightforward.

Obviously I don't want to let the install overwrite my symbol
universe, or toolbars, or EL code, or much of anything else.  Is
there anything I DO need to let it clobber?  Is there a set of files
I can avoid installing, or remove after installation, to avoid unwanted
"functionality" like expert commentary or newsreaders, etc?  Ideally,
I'd like my 4.0 setup to function just like my 3.5 setup before BMI
changed their date format.

What do I need to do to keep a working copy of the TS 3.5 BMI offline
server? I expect I'll need it to generate the index files from
homemade .dat files.
