HI,
It still amazes me why any of my fellow
traders would even care
about a continuous contract. There is no such
creature, so any backtesting,
method application, or idea creation makes no
sense whatsover.
In the the S&P 500 futures we have 4
contracts we trade through the year. That
is wat REALLY happens, and what has happened
since 1982. A continuous contract
analysis might be fun, I suppose, and could
give one some confirmation of trading
ideas.
But PLEASE, do not base your trades on
the basis of some sort of derived false
contract. We don't trade that "contract", and
never will. You are just fooling yourself
when you try and run together contracts for
the "holy grail" of trading platforms. It
doesn't work, because it is not true to the
resl world.
Really, this is true. There are plenty of
realtime trading opportunities out there,
and I encourage well-capitalized traders to
go for it. But when you do your
historical research or testing, please,
please, give up om the idea of a continuous
contract.
It's NOT the real real world....
