Recd SP3 on Sat. Installed as per the included instructions over SP2. No
problems with the install. I use PII450, NT4 SP4, DTN Satellite. I trade
stocks. Now everything in Ts2k is Build 707. Noticed no immediate
differences except debris on daily bar charts. There were disconnected bits
of price bars on most charts. Solved the bar debris problem by importing
daily data off included Histbank CD current thru 9/30/99. Then downloaded
daily quotes from Hbank FTP site for the period 10/1/99 to 10/29/99. Now
all daily charts are fine. Intraday charts were OK as is.
Improvements: GS connects to DTN box much faster upon starting up. Data
Window columns are wider and you can actually read the values. Intraday Tot
Vol for stocks is now accurate. There is now a Description column in Quote
Monitor. Allegedly when GS crashes it will now reconnect to the DTN quote
stream much faster so that you only loose a few minutes of data instead of
an entire day. No crashes yet so I cant verify this; I am certainly hoping
my former once per week GS crash rate will be reduced under SP3.
Neutral Observations: I see no difference in the performance of the
program. Charts and quotes are as fast as ever. My bid/ask/last/vol
numbers match my broker exactly. Charts update at the same time as Quote
Monitor, trade size matches as does bid/ask/last and tvol.
Negatives: You still cant get NetChg, %Chg or Prev on any Index symbol.
Thus you dont know whether INDU/OEX/etc is up or down. You cant chart or
use the value of various market stats in any formula. Nor can you
separately quote many stats. Thus you dont know the Volume on the NYSE or
any other exchange nor can you see a chart of an Adv/Dec line or Adv/Dec
Issues. These values are transmitted by DTN in composite symbols but Omega
has chosen not to parse them out so they are available for use by customers.
I use Ts for its ability to write custom indicators. I find it unbelievable
that after 3 service packs, basic market stats remain unavailable for use in
charts or EL formulas and that other fundamental features like NetChg on
Index symbols is still missing.
We are sorely in need of effective competition is the market software
business.
