Of course, applications cannot tell the difference.  Well, not
strictly true.  Let's just say that "normal" I/O operations from
application programs are oblivious to a drive's physical location.

I have not tried, but I'm sure the answer is no.  First it likely
would violate your agreement with your data supplier.  Secondly,
the omega server undoubtedly graps exclusive write access to the 
data and index files.
