Carroll,

It's no big surprise. As I recently told a TASC writer that wanted my
input for a review article on TS2k:

"I appreciate the offer, but I think I will decline. It has been
my experience that TASC and Futures Magazines, as all print media,
protects it's advertisers. In spite of a well written and objective
piece that you might produce, I doubt that my comments would make it
    past your editors."

I then went through, point by point, why TS2k was not worthy to be
called a retail "product" and summed the lengthy comments by saying:

"With all due respect, <xxxxx>, I doubt that anything but a watered
down version of the above statements will make it past your
editors."

The writer thanked me and acknowledged the fact that I was probably
right.

You see, Carroll, all media is built around advertising dollars. All
television, radio, newspapers, and magazines have as their highest
priority, to get and keep advertisers. The stories and entertainment
they run are just to get people to come and look at the advertising.
You might think that when you are watching TV, the producers are trying
to put on a great show. That's just not true. They are putting on
advertisements and just trying to put a show around them. Even the News
media has their own agenda and will never offend powerful politicians
and organizations lest their interview pool dry up (bite the hand that
feeds them).

I canceled my subscriptions to Futures and TASC years ago, as they are
so blatantly obvious at it that only a rank newbie would not notice.
(just look at any "Bonus Issue" if you still doubt).

Even book publishers are getting into the act. If you have ever
purchased anything from "TradeWins Publishing" you will notice that all
you have done, in my opinion, is buy a very expensive brochure for the
author's system software or advisory service.

I am thankful for lists like this one that I am able to get information
like the kind you have researched. I knew my DBC/Signal feed was slow
and lost ticks, but I never knew HOW BAD IT WAS COMPARED TO THE
COMPETITOR'S FEEDS. I doubt that DBC wants others to know this either.
It's even more unfortunate that you can't even put factual statements
and opinions up on your own website lest some lawyers come calling and
put the big "chill" effect on your first amendment free speech rights.
Ken Robert's lawyers come to mind in one instance on Troutman's site, as
I am sure there are many others.

I hope you continue to research and report your findings on this list.
I have learned a lot about the industry just by reading posts on this
list that I would have learned no where else. As I'm sure Mark Brown
has found, sometimes you have to live in your niche, tell the truth,
help a few people, and after a while you gain a following... and a lot
of feedback. :)
