there are many things that could be causing the problem,
windows 98 being one of them :)
1) check irq's to see if there are any conflicts
2) one thing you can try is to remove all major hardware devices,
like the monitor, video card, sound card, network card, and having
win98 auto detect them at startup. dont ask me why it works, but sometimes
it does.
3) go to the network settings in the control panel. check to see what kind
of clients you have installed. what kind of client are you supposed to be
using to log on to the network? for instance, if it's novell netware, then
the primary network logon should be set up novell netware client.
