Bob - I didn't realize you had posted your message to the list when I sent
you email earlier today.
As I told you - I spoke with Mrs. Yurko last Tuesday (I recall the day
because she called me about 10 minutes before I had to leave for the
airport) - and she told me then that she had not received the check. If you
have the canceled check - please fax it to me (I requested it earlier today
but haven't received it yet). I'm simply in the middle here. I don't know
if you're telling the truth - if she's telling the truth - or if you're both
telling the truth (perhaps someone stole the check and cashed it - I'm sure
that stolen checks aren't exactly unheard of in the neighborhood where the
check was sent).
It certainly isn't my intent to malign you for something you didn't do. As
you know - you made me a reasonable offer for the data - and I accepted it.
I directed that the money in question be sent to the widow of the technical
analyst (John Yurko) who had helped me assemble the 70 year database (I
didn't need the money - and she and her son did - apart from being a young
widow - she also has MS). Although I knew John pretty well - I don't know
his widow very well. Nor do I know you very well for that matter. So - in
light of what she's told me - and what you've said - well - all I can say is
I have a bad headache. And an extreme reluctance ever to get involved in
anything like this again (it is true that no good deed goes unpunished). I
apologize if I have accused you of something you didn't do. Robyn
