The BOOK REVIEW that Thomas Stridsman did of Bill Williams'
latest book was
poor journalism at it's finest. Futures Magazine has since
responded to
many of the traders who contacted them (that are using Bill
Williams'
trading approach successfully) that the pubished piece was
only a BOOK
REVIEW, and not a review of Bill Williams or the
effectiveness of his
approach. As a [published] response to the letters printed
in the March
issue regarding the BOOK REVIEW, Futures said "Thomas
Strridsman's review
was of the book, not the Williams method, although some may
believe it's all
the same..."
Thom Hartle (editor, TASC) attended and published a report
on Bill Williams'
training back in (Fall?) 1995 which was researched, credible
and balanced.
I don't have the June99 issue of Futures Magazine, but I
note that they are
obviously very selective regarding printing Letters to the
Editor ("Sound
Off!") in each issue. I know for a fact that MANY letters
were sent
regarding the Bill Williams' book review, including one from
me, some even
offering brokerage statements to refute the reviewer's
statements, but only
two letters made it to print in the following issue.
Hmmm... this is consistent with the total number of
(short!) letters
published in each issue. Going back a few months: May (1
letter), April (3
letters), March (4 letters), February (4 letters), January
(2 letters).
Futures either gets very little reader mail, or only
pubishes what will fit
on one page (gotta save room for those advertisements!)
Yes, I am successfully (i.e. making a living) trading using
primarily Bill
Williams' approach, having followed it daily for almost four
years. Last
month (May99) my primary account was up $22,191.80 in closed
trades (not
including interest). Bill did even better. To characterize
the BOOK REVIEW
as "[Futures Magazine publishing] the truth about Bill
Williams" is simply
ignorant.
Of course, anyone who has been in the industry for any
period of time would
never confuse an advertising rag with a critical journal.
It will be interesting to see if the HUGE FAILURE called
"Futures South" (a
'la Futures magazine) carries on to "Futures West" this
Fall... rumour has
it that many of the "big names" have bailed out of Futures
Mag and will
continue to be "missing" from their programs.
