In response to various posts on the subject (eg below), I have to say the
following.

We just bought a Dell & a Gateway. Identical specs (450MHz, 256MB, 9GB SCSI,
NT4).

The Dell ran like a dream when we turned it on; the Gateway has been the PC
from hell - when I opened it up, they hadn't even connected the IDE cable to
the ZIP drive! Buy Dell, sell Gateway stock sounds like a reasonable
proposition.
