As a technologist, I can tell you that proprietary data feeds that are
cable-based or use satellite dishes are short-lived (except for farmers !).

The availability of cheap digital lines (ISDN) and the upcoming high
bandwidth ADSL will make those older approaches very expensive compared to
internet access.
The final issue is reliability of connection to the ISP....and this is
getting better almost daily.
