That may be changing now. There have been a handful of suits against discount
brokerage firms claiming that the firms allowed them to do things they shouldn't
have been allowed to do. What the results will be remains to be seen.
FWIW - when I opened an account at E*Trade - the firm made me fill out the same
suitability forms that I've completed when opening full service brokerage
accounts. Don't know if the other discount firms do this. But - if they do -
and the customers lie in order to get accounts to trade things like options -
then I don't think the customers have much of a case. Robyn
