Are you starting this DOS program in a full screen mode (looks
same as when running in DOS) or in a window? If you run it full
screen it shouldn't mess with the Alt functions. Just do a
Alt-Enter to switch between the two. If you want to run it in a
window, check the settings on your shortcut (right click on it
and Properties) to make sure that on the Misc. tab the alt keys
are enabled at the bottom and the quickedit and exclusive checks
are is not enabled. Fast pasting should also be enabled.

I run (or have done until recently) some quickbasic programs in
DOS and haven't had a problem with accessing the commands via the
alt key with this setup.

Let me know if this helps or not. If not you could send me the
shortcut to the program and I could take a look at that.
