My understanding (Fast Web Access article in Mar 99 issue of PC World) that
ASDL consistently ranks 3rd behind a T1 line and cable modem for net speed.
DSL maxes @ 1.5Mbps (but gets as low as 384kbps), whereas cablemodems range
from 3-5 Mbps. If you live in a particularly upscale neighborhood where
*everyone* is cable web-connected, then you likely experience some
slowdown. In the meantime, it's simplicity, lower cost, and no contract
requirements make this a no-brainer for me.
