Technically, VIX is a product of the CBOE; it's an options
artifact, after all. Until last November or so, BMI broadcast
VIX on the CBOE exchange. Then they switched almost all their
indices from their various exchanges to their own MIC exchange,
which is what they stamp VIX with now.
The TS4.0 server apparently doesn't care very much what an item's
exchange is, as 4.0 folks were receiving the indices without
interruption through the change last fall, whereas TS 3.5 users had
to rename their exchanges. This ambiguity has dire implications for
folks who collect items with identical ticker symbols, but different
exchanges.
Last week, in their infinite wisdom, BMI changed the exchange of NDX
from MIC to CBOE. Before last fall's reorganization, it had been
Nasdaq. Seems like they're fiddling with lots of stuff there at DBC.
