If your travelling abroad...
You need a global capable modem (the TDK global class models are good, also
support Euro GSM cellullar connections)
You'll also need a modem connector package such as TeleAdap for all the
different countries (eg UK, Switzerland, France, Germany, South Africa,
Russia).
Finally, don't forget the power issue and all it's connectors...
