Now that I think about it I have had problems sometimes in the past with
the internal phone systems... I seem to recall everything was fixable in
the end. It was necessary to reduce the connection speed. Also had to enter
some extra numbers in the dialing string to "dail 9 for an outside line" etc..

I think basically if the phone system can support an intelligible voice it
can also work with digital signals as long as the bandwith is limited
sufficiently. I mean from the electronics standpoint it's all the same. But
I'm not the definitive authority on this...
