portfolio max and Number of trades question

in the "Trade Analysis" section of portfolio maximizer, ther is a row "Number of Trades"

Let's say this number is 1,000

and I am using a system that buys differing amounts of contracts per trade...it doesn't just buy 1,1,1,1 ...it might buy 1,2,1,4 contracts.

SO, is the 1000 the total number of total trades (ignoring how many contracts) or is this number include contracts as each a trade

ex. 1.   Let's say you had the following 3 trade
1 contract
3 contacts
5 contracts

would portfolio max say there was 3 trades...or would it say 9 trades?
