Subject: REGARDING CUBS
Date sent: Tue, 5 Jan 1999 23:07:58 -0600
This evening the CME informed us that they had traced today's problem
with
CUBS to a file size error in the quote feed used by the system. The
result was that the system showed all orders as being "elected", even
though they were well away from the market. They attempted to eliminate
this part of the display, but were unsuccessful and were forced to bring
the system down. After the close they found the problem and repaired
the
file.
Today's problem does NOT seem to have any relation to the problems that
interupted CUBS2 in early December.
As of this writing (11:00 pm Chicago time), we expect normal CUBS
operations tomorrow in the March S&P.

Subject: CUBS DOWN
Date sent: Wed, 6 Jan 1999 08:44:02 -0600
As of 8:28 am Chicago time on Wednesday, the CUBS station in the S&P 500
pit has been taken off line. THIS ONLY IMPACTS S&P ORDERS. It does not
impact DJ futures, E-Minis, or any other contract.
In the S&Ps we request that you limit yourself to Market Orders ONLY and
recommend cancelling any Working LIMIT or STOP orders. Be aware that
there will be significant delays in reporting fills from this point
forward. Additionally, we request (THESE ARE NOT REQUIREMENTS)that if
possible, you STRAIGHT CANCEL any working orders instead of Cancel and
Replace.
At this time we are not sure as to when we will be reactivating this
system, and will let you know as news develops.
