Sounds like a noble effort. However, I think most of the goals David
stated will be fulfilled by TradeLab. It hasn't been released yet but I
trust the integrity of Bob Brickey. Seems like TL might be a good
starting point to avoid reinventing the wheel. 

TL is a modular, open architecture, 32 bit, trading shell that can be
modified in almost any way you can imagine using any language that
supports COM (VB5 recommended for ease of use). It uses the UMDS data
server. Bob has already done the hard work of writing the code for
charting and basic system testing and users can concentrate their
efforts on writing code to implement their ideas.

ps - it scared omega enough that they tried to buy it and bob told them
where to put their cuban cigar :-)
