It's my understanding that cable also has an Achilles Heel. While phone
networks have the ability to switch and route packets of data, cable takes a
brute force approach of running all the data through the same (high capacity
fiber optic) pipe resulting in decreasing performance as demand increases.
>From what I've read, the high performance of cable is due, in large measure,
to the paucity of users and the long term viability of cable based internet
service is dependent upon rebuilding the cable systems with packet switching
capabilities.
