The site you list is a little extreme (an understatement?) but not too
many days ago CNN had a story on their site about this upcoming meteor
shower. Apparently it will be exceptionally strong and several
satellites are being turned to protect their solar panels on Nov. 17 &
18. It *is* something we might want to keep in mind on those two days as
I would assume the risk of a satellite being knocked out is higher. If
the risk wasn't higher I don't think they would be trying to protect the
solar panels.
Perhaps others with more knowledge might inform us better.
