What I heard from my rep at FutureSource (and since Omega has yet to respond
to me, that's the only side of the story I know) was that Omega is making
very unrealistic demands of FutureSource as far as guarantees of numbers of
customers they could provide, because Omega has to develop a 32-bit server
program to support FutureSource. I don't know why FutureSource doesn't do
this themselves, but on the other side of it I also don't know why it would
be so hard for Omega to simply update the 16-bit server (called the
FutureSource Gateway) they already have. But apparently it's a sticking
point. I guess Omega's new "Universal Server" apparently isn't all that
universal. So Omega is making quota demands that would "pretty much put FS
out of business," although apparently things "have gotten a bit better
recently," according to my account rep at FS.
But what I mean in what I said was that if Omega plays hardball with all the
datafeed providers that can't guarantee them big bucks, we're all gonna be
stuck using crappy data from less than reliable providers like BMI and
Signal, and we won't have any choice about it, if we wish to continue using
TradeStation. That's why I believe that everyone who uses TradeStation has
a stake in this, and should voice their opinions to Omega, and, especially
if they use FutureSource, should voice their opinions to FutureSource as
well.
