Subject: Re: TS Running on LINUX? You Bet!
>Very interesting - great work!
>The omega server and the charting module communicating about DDE . I've no
idea yet how you made this combination NT-Linux boxes running about a
network. For some time I experimented with network DDE between win 95 -
terrible and time consuming - maybe I mad all wrong. My idea was the same
>as you had, to separate the server from the charting module to benefit from
the more of performance on the charting box and to have the opportunity to
let more charting boxes run in a network at the same time together with only
one server ...
Load both programs on two different PC's both on the same network. On the
charting PC go into the system. ini and remap the server from C: or D: to
whatever drive is on whatever PC on the network. I personally prefer to
delete the server completely on the Charting PC, because by accident you can
start up the server on the Charting PC by mistake and thats not good.
Remember to start up the server on the Server PC first else Charting on the
Charting PC wont start. TS thinks both computers are as one. I'm sure that
there are some details I'm leaving out, but thats the overall concept. If
you can fill in the blanks then you better leave it alone. I have found
each installation of this different in some way or another. But with some
determination it can be done and works very well. This set up will still
only allow one Charting PC to run on the server at a time. You may however
shut down one and run another, good idea if mission critical.
>Mark, you didn't mention something about performance measurements regarding
the emulated charting module and network performance for the data handling
between server box and charting box - please can you comment ?
This can be either slow or super fast, much faster than on a single PC.. MB
ps if you have the extra pcs and you want to try this, i learned by running
server and then deleteing the entire omega directory while it was running,
that left only the server files that were needed to run the server. then i
run charting and the server and deleted all the files while running, this
left me with the bare bones files. you can leave all the files on both pcs
though.
