Norton defrag called Speed Disk is considerably faster than the windows defrag ,
also interesting is that Symantec wrote the original version of most of the win
95 utilities. It also reorganizes you HD so that files are placed in an order
that causes less fragmentation. Due to this reorganization the first time you
run Speed Disk may take a little longer than it will subsequently. I currently
defrag a 6.4 gig HD wit 3 gig full in 10 to 12 minutes, 15 if I wipe the free
space.

Are you sure you are talking about defrag? Sounds like you mean scan here.
There's no way a PC can do a defrag of even the smallest drive in less than 2
minutes. I run a PII 266 w/256MB on a 4 gig drive, and while I've never timed
the
defrag, it takes a LOT longer than this.

This sounds a little long - a couple of hours or so would be typical I'd guess,
unless he has a very large drive.

The defrag program is a resident Windows program. Norton or anything else won't
speed it up.
