You know, Bob, based on Omega's paranoia of piracy issues and system vendor
heat, this makes sense. They kill three birds with one stone...SafeSoft,
Elabreaker, and Omega's 16 bit product line (including ALL legal and
pirated TS 3.01, 3.5, 4.0, SC, OS, etc). Unfortunately, for Omega, the
effort that they put into TS 5 security concerns (hardware locks and ELA
protection schemes) will be rewarded a few months later by new versions of
SafeSoft and Elabreaker.

This explanation is certainly close to the reality.
Removing all the 16 bit illegal TS version by devising a serious TS4 yk2 patch
is a very good idea from their point of view.
Concerning Safesoft, maybe there will be a new version, maybe not.
Depends on TS5 protection scheme.
Elabreaker and the like are bound to fail ,as TS5 allows to export only TOK
files (ie compiled files without the source code in it).
And as the trick used by elabreaker was to spy the hidden password necessary
to decrypt the ELA source code before compiling , this kind of software is
fortunately bound to fail with TS5.
The only advantage of Elabeaker and the like was to show that most of the
protected code sold were of no or poor value. That's the good point.
The next protection scheme will of course allow the same kind of hype to
continue, and even it will be dificult to track.
But there are some serious people tha have produced intersting trading systems
or tools , and that do not sell or propose them due to the ease of piracy.
More, it forbids the possibility to spread free evaluation versions of a given
product, what I have always advocated here for black box systems.
A good black box system is one with three coats of painting ,secure enough to
be tested for free on any historical data and secure enough to protect the
author.
Things are changing into the good direction for honest people.
Sincerely,
Pierre Orphelin
