Pierre, I believe there may be a problem with the well intended user
implemented fix of the y2000 problem as opposed to the promised y2000
patch that Omega claimed here on this list that would be available by
early second quarter this year, by Bill Cruz's personal assistant. The
problem is that: if you do not allow the morning update the you may be
operating a system under false data assumptions. That is the morning
update is there for a reason. If you trade automated systems for a
profession and have clients money depending on the accuracy of the data
then this poor excuse of a fix is NOT acceptable. If you are not a
professional trader, money manager and just play with the program then
this suggested fix would be acceptable, I guess? >>
I do not see any problem when not running the morning update, according to the
Help online description.
The main purpose being backup, and database reduction, removing the morning
update will only have the benefit to allow past year 2000 symbol not to be
declared as expired.
To the best of my knwoledge, I maintain 2 TS online and 1 TS offline.
I seldom do a morning update on the offline version, excepted to add some new
contracts when I copy data from the oline server to the offline.
The offlline server gas a 800Mb tick datafile, and never has had any problem
when backtesting systems, that were compiant with the results observed with te
online versions and the database maintained through the automatic moning
update.
Now, this is an unofficial advice, and you may ask to Omega if this solution
is risk free or not, and allows to colect the data on symbols that are
currently forbidden by the lack of the TS4 yk2 patch.
Below are the features of the morning update:
"
The morning update is a utility that runs automatically at a certain time each
day. During the morning update you can have the Server clean up your log
files, back up your tick data files, mark expired contracts, and automatically
add new future contracts x calendar months out into the future. In addition,
the morning update is used to purge your tick and daily data files. When a
symbol is added to your portfolio, you select the number of days you want to
save for each symbol. For example, you might save 365 days of daily data and
30 days of tick data. After 365 days of daily data collection, the first day
must be dropped to make room for the next day. The morning update performs
this operation. If you are not performing an evening update your tick and
daily data files will become very large and take up hard drive space that
could be better used.
To enable the update be sure that there is a check mark in the Enable Morning
Update check box. If one is not there click the check box. To enter a time
click inside the Start Time edit box. Times are entered in HH:MM AM/PM format
or can also be entered in military format.
"
Sincerely,
-Pierre Orphelin
