With respect to "schemes" & "scams," it's a matter of geography.
Americans use scheme as a pejorative, while Europeans do not.
Therefore, if you read in the London Financial Times about a "scheme," it's
not =necessarily= a scam. You can freely substitute a word such as plan or
program(me).
Read about a scheme in an American paper & the connotation, at a minimum,
is that it's a scam or less than fair, up-front deal.
