Hello,
I have been asked by a couple of folks to post the response of Kevin Fortner
of Omega customer support, concerning how to deal with a too large 40 bonn.dat
file.
It does seem to be only appropriate to Win95. I have e-mailed Kevin to find
the appropriate changes for 3.11.
>>Dear Roy ,
We heard about your plight via the Omega List, and wanted to make sure
that you received the proper advice for both reducing the size of the
data file and moving TradeStation to a new drive. Use the following
procedure to copy out the data that you want to keep when you move
TradeStation to the new drive:
1. In the Omega Server, click on File - Copy Out.
2. In the target box type in 'D:\datafile' without the quotes.
3. Enter the date range for the data that you would like to keep
for the new install, and then Use the Add, Add All, or Add By buttons to
select the symbols for which you would like to keep the historical data.
4. Once you have moved all of the symbols you want to keep data for
to the Data to Copy box, click on OK.
After you have completed these steps, follow these steps to move
TradeStation to the D drive:
1. Highlight and delete any Shortcuts on the Desktop that refer to
Omega products installed on the drive from which you are transferring
TradeStation.
2. From the Windows 95 Desktop, click on Start - Programs - Windows
Explorer.
3. In Windows Explorer, highlight the folder C:\Omega by clicking
on it with the left mouse button, click on File - Rename, and type the
new folder name 'OLDOmega' without the quotes.
4. Exit Windows Explorer.
5. Click on Start - Find - Files or Folders.
6. In the Named: box type 'or_*.ini' without the quotes, then click
on Find Now.
7. Highlight the first file in the list, click on File - Rename,
and rename the file 'xor_*.old' without the quotes, where *=the rest of
the filename.
8. Continue to rename the remaining files in the list using the
same structure.
9. Once complete, type 'omega.ini' without the quotes in the named
box, click on Find Now and rename it to 'xomega.old' without the quotes.
10. Use the same procedure and nomenclature to rename the files:
tstation.ini
opsalcrt.ini
scharts.ini
All of the above files may not be included on your system, but all
should be searched for and renamed if present.
11. Reinstall the TradeStation program from the original CD-ROM or
diskettes to the desired location for the new installation, for example
D:\Omega.
12. Once the installation is complete, start Windows Explorer.
13. Double click with the left mouse button on the drive which
contains the new installation of TradeStation, D: in the above example.
14. Double click with the left mouse button on the Omega folder in
the new drive, you should now see its contents on the right pane of the
Windows Explorer program.
15. Delete each folder contained within the Omega folder, Bifuncs,
Cdidx, Data, etc. by highlighting it and clicking on File - Delete, or
you can select more than one folder at one time by holding down the Ctrl
key on the keyboard when you left click to select the folders, then
select File - Delete.
16. When all of the folders have been deleted, you will double click
in the left pane of the Windows Explorer display window on the OLDOmega
Folder, which you renamed earlier.
17. Highlight each folder in the directory, you can select more than
one by holding down the Ctrl key on the keyboard when you left click to
select the folders, or you can highlight one at a time.
18. After selecting the folder(s), click on Edit - Copy.
19. Next, select the folder 'Omega' on the new drive by clicking on
it.
20. Once the new install folder is highlighted, click on Edit -
Paste to copy the folders from the old directory into the new
installation directory.
21. Now, double-click on the server folder under Omega on the new
installation.
22. Double-click on the BTC folder.
23. Highlight the file 40Bonn.dat.
24. Click on File - Delete, and click on Yes to send the file to the
Recycle Bin.
25. Use the same procedure to delete the files 40Bonn.idx, 40Bonn5.dat,
and 40Bonn5.idx.
26. Close the Windows Explorer program.
27. Open the Offline Data Server for BMI.
28. Click on File - Paste In.
29. Click on the Scan button to the right of the Directory window,
change the drive letter to D, and click on OK to scan for the 'datafile'
that was copied out earlier.
30. Once the scan has been completed, you will see the file called
datafile in the window below.
31. Highlight the file with your mouse and click on Auto Paste.
32. Once the file has finished decompressing and pasting, you will be
able to access the new, smaller data file from the new install on the D
drive.
Use your TradeStation program for about one week to make sure that you
are having no problems, then you may delete the old installation on the
C drive.
If you have any further questions please contact me via e-mail,
Regards,
Kevin Fortner
