I suspect this is an issue which will vary from one cable operator to another.
While some cable operators provide reliable service without commercial
interruptions, many do not. Many of us who use satellite are doing so because
the local cable system has proven itself unable to provide high quality at a
reasonable cost. In my own case, I've got dish on east side of house pointed at
Galaxy IV for data and dish on west side of house pointed at DirectTV for
programming. There is no question that given an ideal world, land based
communications systems are more efficient than satellite, however the cable
operators have with a few exceptions failed to meet their potential.
