Re: Galaxy IV satellite out (was BMI Stopped)

PanAmSat's Galaxy IV satellite went out of control around 6p eastern time Tuesay
May 20. Galaxy IV carries DTN satellite, and apparently from reports here, BMI
satellite service. Also the majority of pagers in the USA and relay services for
many of the major networks. Hughes is attempting to recover the satellite and
had hopped to have it back in service by Wed morning, however nothing is coming
in from DTN as of 4a mountain time. If recovery is not successful, the services
will have to be moved to other satellites - will probably put a strain on
availability. Galaxy IV has been experiencing some problems but can not be
replaced until late 1999 at the earliest.

Interesting that DTN and BMI not only share Bridge as a data provider but Galaxy
IV as a transmission platform.
